A recent study was published on "The England New Medicine" on May 13th, that cats may easily catch "SARS Cove 2" that causes "Covid 19", and it may help to transmit the infection among them.

Because the virus is quickly transmitted between humans through flying and touching sneeze droplets and saliva, according to each study conducted by scientists from the United States, Britain and Japan, Confirm bin cats are also infected with the virus after exposure to infected people or other cats carrying the "SARS-Cove 2 virus"

Cats are also vulnerable to coronavirus and transmit infection

Scientists exposed three cats to the SARS-Cove 2 virus, an isolated human patient. The next day, a swab was taken from the cat's nasal passages, as the virus was discovered in two of these cats. On the third day, they were discovered that the virus was in the three cats.

To find out the extent of these cats' ability to transmit the infection among themselves, they introduced a new cat to the cage for each of the first three cats.

Researchers took swabs from the nose and rectum every day to determine if the new cats were infected with the virus. After two days, it was found that one of the new cats - which was not previously infected - was actually infected with the virus.

Six days later, all cats were infected with the virus, and positive results for the virus were found in nasal swabs only, without rectal swabs.

Absence of symptoms
Although the cats remained carriers of the virus in their nasal passages for six days, they did not show any signs of disease, and the virus was not fatal to them. In the end, the cats were able to get rid of the virus.

In connection with this discovery, the "Medical Express" website reported that the leader of this study and professor of viruses at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, American Yoshihiro Kawak said, "This was a great discovery for us, as none of these cats showed any symptoms."

The seriousness of this matter, adds the participant in this study, Peter Havman, saying, "People should be careful about this matter. If someone isolates himself for fear of passing the disease to his children and his wife, he must also worry about the infection of animals with it."

Therefore, researchers advise people carrying symptoms of Corona not to touch or contact cats. They also advise domestic cat owners to keep their pets indoors and quarantine them, in order to limit their cats' contact with other people and animals.

Despite the concern of scientists for this problem, the World Organization for Animal Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention believe that "there is no justification for taking special measures against acquired animals that may harm their welfare."

This may be true, so humans are still the greatest risk to each other for virus transmission. There is no evidence that cats transmit the virus again to humans, and there are no documented cases in which a person becomes infected with "Covid 19" due to contact with cats.

In fact, there are confirmed cases of cats infection with the virus after close contact with carriers of the virus, and it was proven when many big cats at the Bronx Zoo in New York City showed that they were infected with the virus.

Commandments to protect cats

Many institutions are currently working on developing special recommendations related to pets, especially after they have been exposed or exposed to infection with Covid 19 disease.

Sandra Newberry, director of the Preventive Medicine Program at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, said, "Animal welfare organizations are working very hard in light of this current crisis to maintain human and animal ties, as well as maintain pets with their owners."

"Of course it is a difficult time for everyone, which makes people more in need of comfort and support than ever before, which is what pets provide them."

Therefore, the owners of these animals must take them into account when planning and preparing for emergencies, and he must provide supplies of food and medicine for a period of two weeks, in addition to preparing to provide the necessary care for the animal if the need calls for it to be quarantined due to disease, ”says Assistant Dean for Clinical Affairs at the same university, Ruthan Chun.
